Patent Faceoff: Pfizer vs. Novartis


Global pharma Novartis has 1,554 patents, see them all listed here from the most recent. Based in Switzerland, the firm has annual revenue of $43 billion.

NYC-based Pfizer, a key Novartis competitor, has substantially more patents despite being only slightly bigger ($48 billion in annual revenue)-- a total of 6,067 patents as of today-- they're all here, in chronological sort order.

Pfizer's most recent patent took almost four years to earn-- it was filed on 6/15/2005 and was published on 4/17/2009. It's U.S. Patent 7,514,464, Substituted Arylpyrazoles:

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to a combination product comprising a pyrazole derivative of formula (I) in combination with one or more biologically active compounds as described herein, particularly anti-parasitic agents. The compounds of interest of formula (I) are cyclopropylarylpyrazoles and, more particularly, the invention relates to 1-aryl-4-cyclopropylpyrazoles in which there is at least one fluorine attached to the cyclopropyl ring.
